Intro to Screen Printing

from 55.00

Tuesday, August 22, 2017 from 6-9pm

Learn how to design, prepare, expose and print a screen using photo emulsion and a light source. Bring 4 t-shirts or other fabric items to print with your own design!

This class will cover the basic processes used in photo emulsion screen printing. We will review image preparation, coating, burning and printing techniques. Students will produce a single-color screen print from start-to-finish, which they will print on their own fabric items.

Each student should submit an image they would like to use.

The image should fit within 8.5 x 11″ and be in solid black, no matter what color the final print will be. Text, line drawings, and flat areas of color are all excellent for this process; no half-tones, please. Do not invert or reverse the image. Vector images are best, but we can work with other formats as well. Please email your image earlier in the week to make sure it doesn’t need any adjustments and to save time during class.

Please keep in mind when selecting items to print that we will be using one ink color only on all items. You will select your ink color from our collection in class.

Students should wear clothes that they are not afraid to get dirty – we will be using permanent fabric ink that cannot be removed with detergents! Please also wear closed-toe shoes and tie back long hair.

Photo emulsion, transparencies and ink will be supplied out of the workshop fees. Screens, tools, and other equipment will also be available for use, but will need to remain at the studio.

Please Bring:

  1. Your choice of 4 fabric items to print on (t-shirts, tote bags, pillowcases, napkins, tea towels, etc.). Anything with a flat, single layer of cotton or cotton-blend fabric area should do!
